چکیده

In order to reduce the bit rate of video signals, the standardized coding techniques apply motion-compensated prediction in combination with transform coding of the prediction error. By mathematical analysis, it is shown that aliasing components are deteriorating the prediction efficiency. In order to compensate the aliasing, two-dimensional (2-D) and three-dimensional interpolation filters are developed. As a result, motionand aliasing-compensated prediction with 1/4-pel displacement vector resolution and a separable 2-D Wiener interpolation filter provide a coding gain of up to 2 dB when compared to 1/2-pel displacement vector resolution as it is used in H.263 or MPEG-2. An additional coding gain of 1 dB can be obtained with 1/8-pel displacement vector resolution when compared to 1/4-pel displacement vector resolution. In consequence of the significantly improved coding efficiency, a Wiener interpolation filter and 1/4-pel displacement vector resolution is applied in H.264/AVC and in MPEG-4 (advanced simple profile).

Adaptive Interpolation Filter for Motion Compensated Hybrid Video Coding

Common hybrid video coding standards such as H.263, MPEG-1,2,4 are based on motion compensated prediction. For the motion compensated prediction purpose, displacement vectors with fractional-pel resolutions (e.g. 1/2-pel or 1/4-pel) are used. In order to estimate and compensate fractional-pel displacements, the image signal has to be interpolated. The most popular and very simple interpolation ...

Adaptive Interpolation Filter for Motion and . . .

Common motion compensated hybrid video coding standards such as H.263, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 are based on a fractional-pel displacement vector (DV) resolution of 1/2-pel. Recent approaches like MPEG-4 (ACE-profile) and H.26L use higher DV resolutions of 1/4-pel and 1/8-pel. In order to estimate and compensate fractional-pel displacements, the image signal has to be interpolated. Especially for...

High - Order Motion Compensationfor Low Bit - Rate

The concept of high-order motion compensation is introduced. It is argued that in hybrid video coding, motion-compensated prediction has to be viewed as a source coding problem with a delity criterion. Based on our considerations, various high-order motion compensation approaches are presented that achieve signi-cantly improved video coding results. The designed motion-compensated predictors ac...

Low-Band-Shifted Hierarchical Backward Motion Estimation, Compensation for Wavelet-Based Video Coding

A new framework for block-based backward motion compensation in wavelet scalable video coding scheme is proposed. Motion estimation and compensation are hierarchically conducted in wavelet domain using coarser level lowpass subband in the current frame and synthesized next finer level lowpass subband in the reference frame, hence, the motion information does not need to be transmitted. To allev...
